About

The inception, intention, evolution and creative inspiration of The Runny Pen will be blogged. Spawned mid-Spring of 2007, it has been an ongoing conversation between two friends for about a year now. Genesis of this web portal occurred in San Diego, California, out in the east county. As of this writing, we have yet to post Mark’s photo journal from last year’s fire devastation which ripped across these dry hillsides consuming life and suburban homes. This time President Bush was a little more prompt, declaring a ’state of emergency’ for the scarred counties of San Diego.

But yesterday I saw wildflowers popping from the blackened hillsides. Here, from this town at the edge of the Pacific, we begin a journey towards building a unique community for writers across the wide open spaces of the internet; this century’s new frontier. The Runny Pen will be a sort of depot, with a hospitable staff and natural hot spring, an outpost where the outlaws of the intellect can dust-off, water their horses, take a shot, relax, commune, find work, or just warm their hands near the fire and chew the fat with their own kind.

THE MAN has left his residue on me. I need to dust-off and play in the mud, be close to mama earth. I need to feel the warmth of home and smell the hide and seek it over and over again until I can find the stillness of emptiness.

I wost my tooth for chewing too much fat but I’ve found my tooth while righting. Thank you for a place for me to rest and be myself. For being the catalyst that sparked the fire inside of me to start righting again.
